Biography

Annetje (de Vries) Polhemus is the descendant of a New Netherland settler.

Annetje (also known as Hannah or Hannatye) de Vries was born on March 1, 1754; baptized March 31, 1754 at the Reformed Dutch Church in Clarkstown, Orange (now Rockland) County, New York. She is the daughter of Johannes de Vries IV and Tryntje Gerow.[1][2][3]

"Hannah Freese" married Abraham Polhemus on March 30, 1771 in New York City.[2][3][4][5] They lived in Tappan. They had six children.

  1. Jacob Polhemus was born December 6, 1771; baptized February 9, 1772 at the Irregular Reformed Dutch Church in Tappan, Orange County (now Rockland County), New York. He may have died young.[6]
  2. Johannes Polhemus was born May 16, 1773; baptized July 11, 1773 at the Reformed Dutch Church in Clarkstown.[7] He may have died in 1774.
  3. Abraham Polhemus was born April 23, 1775; baptized May 14, 1775 at the Irregular Reformed Dutch Church in Tappan. He married Antje Smith on January 24, 1802 at the Reformed Dutch Church in Tappan.[8][9]
  4. Benjamin Polhemus was born September 7, 1778; baptized October 2, 1778 at the Reformed Dutch Church in Clarkstown. He married Lucretia Hegeman.[10]
  5. Caatje Polhemus was born August 25, 1788; baptized October 19, 1788 at the Reformed Dutch Church in Clarkstown.[11]
  6. Antje Polhemus was born March 25, 1792; baptized on May 8, 1791 at the Reformed Dutch Church in Clarkstown.[12]

Research Notes

"Hannah Polhemus, the second wife of Abraham Polhemus" died on September 8, 1802 at an age of 35. She is buried in the Clarkstown Reformed Church Cemetery. She seems to be the wife of a different Abraham Polhemus. See research notes on her husband's profile for details.[13]
